Step 1: Act Quickly

Mayonnaise is an oil-based condiment, which means that it will start to seep into fabric fibers of your garment if you don’t act quickly. As soon as you realize the mayo stain, use a spoon or dull knife to automatically scrape away as much of the excess as possible.

Step 2: Pre-Treat Stain

Next, pre-treat the stained area by applying a pre-wash stain remover or liquid laundry detergent directly to stain. Gently rub the product into the fabric, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Soak the Garment

Once you’ve pre-treated the item, fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and a small amount of laundry detergent. Let the garment soak for up to 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Step 4: Wash as Normal

Finally, launder tunic as instructed on the care tag. Make sure to check the garment before tossing it in the dryer, as heat could set the stain and make it virtually impossible to remove.
