Step 1: Gently Blot the Stain

The first step to removing a mayonnaise stain is to gently blot the stained area with a rag or paper towel. The goal here is to dab away as much of mayonnaise as possible before moving onto next step. Be careful to not rub the stain, as this could cause it to spread and become more difficult to remove later on.

Step 2: Pretreat with Detergent

Once you’ve dabbed away as much of the mayonnaise as possible, pretreat the stained area with a liquid laundry detergent. Apply a small amount of detergent directly to the stained area and let sit for 10-15 minutes. This will help to break down the mayonnaise and make it easier to remove later on.

Step 3: Soak in Warm Water

Once you’ve pre-treated the stained area, it’s time to soak the garment in warm water. Fill a sink or a large bowl with warm water and add a few drops of liquid laundry detergent. Soak the garment in water for 30 minutes. This will help to further loosen the mayonnaise and get rid of any lingering stains.

Step 4: Wash in the Machine

After soaking the garment, it’s time to wash it in the machine. Set the machine to a warm water setting and add a stain remover or liquid laundry detergent. Once the cycle has finished, check to make sure the mayonnaise stain is gone. If it’s still present, repeat steps 2-4 until stain has been completely removed.

Step 5: Air Dry

Once the mayonnaise stain has been removed, it’s time to air dry the garment. Hang garment up on a clothesline or lay it flat on a towel until completely dry. Do not put the garment in the dryer until stain has been completely removed.
