1. Remove as Much of the Stain as Possible

The first step to removing mayonnaise stains from traditional fabric surfaces is to remove as much of the stain as possible. Start by using a paper towel or an old rag to blot up any excess mayonnaise. Do not rub or scrub the stain as this can spread it further into the fabric.

2. Pre-Treat the Stain with Laundry Detergent

Once you have removed most of the mayonnaise from the fabric surface, apply some laundry detergent directly to the stain and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, use a cloth to gently blot the stained area until you see the stain beginning to dissolve.

3. Wash on a Hot Cycle

After pre-treating the stain with laundry detergent, it is time to wash the garment. Use your washing machine's hottest cycle to ensure that all remnants of the mayonnaise stain are removed. Be sure to check the garment after washing, and if the stain is still visible, repeat steps two and three.

4. Hand Wash the Garment

If the stain has still not been completely removed, you can try hand washing the garment. Fill a sink or basin with hot water and add some laundry detergent. Allow the garment to soak for 30 minutes, then gently rub stained area with a soft cloth. Rinse the garment and inspect it to make sure all of the stain is gone.

5. Drying Garment

When the mayonnaise stain has been completely removed, it is time to dry garment. Hang garment on a clothesline or in the sun to air dry. If the garment is placed in the dryer, make sure the temperature is set to low to prevent stain from setting further into the fabric.
