When cleaning mayonnaise stains from ties, it's important to act fast. The longer the stain sits, harder it is to remove. Depending on what fabrics your tie is made from, there may be different techniques to use. To find out which is best for your tie, check the fabric care label. A few techniques you can use include:

  • Combine equal parts vinegar and water in a bowl. Dip a cloth into the mixture and gently dab the stain. Then, rinse the area well with cold water. For silk or delicate ties, substitute the vinegar with mild laundry detergent (not bleach).
  • For natural fabrics such as wool or cotton, dab some nail polish remover onto a clean cloth and use it to treat the stain. Then, rinse with cold water afterward.
  • Try a commercial stain remover product. Apply some of the product directly to the stained area, then use a cloth to gently rub the product in. Finally, rinse area with cold water.

Once the mayonnaise is removed, place the tie in a sink of cold water to remove any residue from the cleaning agents. Next, lay the tie flat on a towel away from direct heat and allow to air dry completely.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your favorite ties looking great, even when mayonnaise stains try to ruin them!
