First, it’s important to act quickly to treat the mayonnaise stain. Refresh stain using cold water to move the mayonnaise away from the fabric fibers and decrease the chance of permanently staining the material. Then go through the steps outlined below.

Step 1: Create a Vinegar Solution

In a bucket or bowl, mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Swish the solution to combine the ingredients.

Step 2: Soak the Sweatpants

Submerge the sweatpants in the vinegar solution and let them soak for 30 minutes. After the time is up, rinse off the vinegar solution with cold water.

Step 3: Launder the Sweatpants

Wash the sweatpants as you normally would in cool water on a regular cycle with a small amount of detergent. If stain is still present after the first wash, repeat this process until mayonnaise stain is gone.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid using hot water and harsh chemicals when cleaning mayonnaise stains.
  • It is important to avoid putting the sweatpants in the dryer until all traces of the stain are removed.
  • You may want to try using a stain remover or a commercial pre-wash product before laundering.
