How To Remove The Stain

  1. Start by blotting away any excess mayonnaise with a paper towel. Be sure to not rub fabric as this will spread the stain.
  2. Once the excess mayonnaise is blotted away, soak the stain in cold water for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Mix a solution of one teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar per 1/2 cup of lukewarm water.
  4. Apply the solution directly to the stain and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Rinse the area well with cold water.
  6. If the stain still remains, mix a solution of one part chlorine bleach and five parts water.
  7. Soak the stockings in the bleach solution for 10 minutes.
  8. Rinse the area very well with cold water.
  9. Once the stain is removed, wash the stockings in cold water with like colors.
  10. Hang the stockings up to dry.

Additional Tips and Ideas

  • If the mayonnaise stain is still present after trying above method, try rubbing a bit of alcohol directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before washing. This usually works wonders on stubborn mayonnaise stains.
  • If the stain is still there after trying the above methods, try repeating the process or taking your stockings to a professional laundry service.
  • To avoid future mayonnaise stains, be sure to always check clothing labels for care instructions when purchasing new stockings. Some materials are more prone to staining than others and should be treated with extra care.
