Mayonnaise and other creamy condiments have a way of ending up everywhere, including on your socks. Though it may feel like you won’t be able to get rid of the stain, there are actually quite a few things you can do to get rid of the mayonnaise.
Before you start cleaning the sock, rinse away any excess sauce with cold water. You can either do this in sink or by holding the sock under a stream of water. This will help prevent the mayonnaise from setting into the fibers of the fabric, making the stain easier to remove.
The next step is to pre-treat the stain with a laundry detergent that is designed specifically for stain removal. Apply detergent directly to the mayonnaise stain and allow it to sit on fabric for several minutes. This will help break down the oily molecules in the mayonnaise and make it easier to remove.
Once the detergent has been absorbed into the fabric, it’s time to launder the sock. Use cold water, and be sure to use the gentlest possible cycle. If possible, air dry the sock instead of using a dryer, as this will help keep the stain from setting permanently.
If the mayonnaise stain is still visible after laundering, repeat steps 2 and 3 until stain is gone. It may take several attempts to completely remove stain, so don’t give up!
