Steps for Cleaning Mayonnaise Stains
- Put some cold water on the stain to rinse out some of the mayo, and blot the area with a clean cloth.
- If stain persists, mix a solution of 1 tbsp white vinegar and a cup of water. Use that to spot-treat the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Rinse the area with cold water and sprinkle a light layer of baking soda over the stain. Let it sit for another 10 minutes.
- Wash the shirt according to care instructions. If the stain still remains, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.
Tips for Preventing Mayonnaise Stains
- Apply condiments like mayonnaise to the top piece of bread or directly onto the sandwich fillings. This way, when you eat the sandwich, the condiment won't be able to transfer onto your shirt.
- Cover up with an apron or bib to keep your clothes stain-free even if you get a little messy while eating.
- If you have a spill, act quickly and blot up what you can right away.
