Although mayonnaise is a great sandwich spread, if it gets on your clothes, it can be difficult to remove. This is especially true for rayon fabrics. Rayon is a delicate fabric that requires gentle cleaning methods, so you must take extra care when trying to remove mayonnaise from this type of fabric.
The first step in removing the mayonnaise stain is to blot (not rub!) the area with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. This will help soak up some of the mayo and prevent the stain from spreading.
Once you have blotted the stained area with a cloth, liberally apply a good quality stain remover to the fabric. Allow the stain remover to work its magic for 5 to 10 minutes before moving on to next step.
Once the stain remover has had time to work, pre-treat stain with a laundry pre-treatment spray or gel. Be sure to follow the product instructions for best results.
Finally, launder the fabric as usual according to care label instructions. If the stain remains after first wash, repeat steps 1 through 4 until the stain is completely gone.
The best way to avoid mayonnaise stains on rayon fabric is to keep a close eye on your meal. Make sure to cover your clothes when eating, and always be aware of where your food is going. If mayonnaise accidentally gets on your clothes, act quickly to remove the stain as soon as possible. Otherwise, it could set into the fabric and become almost impossible to remove.
