Step 1: Blot the Excess Mayo

Before you do anything else, take a cloth or paper towel and soak up as much of the mayonnaise as possible. Do your best to avoid pushing the mess around and instead lift it away from the material.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

With a dry paper towel, pre-treat the stained area with laundry detergent. For tougher stains, you can also lightly spray the area with WD-40 and let it sit for 10 minutes before pre-treating. This will help break down the oils in the mayo.

Step 3: Rinse with Water

Use clean water to rinse away the detergent. You can spot-clean area with a soft sponge or brush. Don't scrub or it could damage the fabric.

Step 4: Wash in Clean Water

Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a scoop of laundry detergent or a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Soak the fabric in the solution for 30 minutes and then rinse. Repeat if necessary until the stain has been completely removed.

Step 5: Let Air Dry

Once you’ve done all of the above, hang the item up to air dry. Don’t put it in the dryer as this can cause the stain to set in. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-4 until it is completely gone.
