The first step to removing the mayo stain is to dry blot the area with a paper towel or clean cloth. This will help to absorb as much of mayonnaise as possible, preventing it from setting further into the fabric. It is best to start from the outside of the stain and work your way to the center. Do not rub the fabric too hard, as this can lead to spread the stain and potentially damage the fabric.
Using a sponge or cloth, apply a pre-wash product which is designed to break down and remove difficult stains such as mayonnaise. Be sure to check that the pre-wash product is suitable for use on polyester fabrics before application. Once applied, allow the pre-wash to sit on the area of the stain for 5-10 minutes.
Once the pre-wash has been allowed to sit, place the garment in the washing machine on a normal cycle with a mild detergent. Be sure to read the care label of the garment to ensure that the prescribed temperature setting is followed. After the cycle is finished, hang the garment up to air-dry - do not put the garment in the dryer.
If the stain is still present after the initial wash, then repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is completely removed.
Removing a mayonnaise stain from polyester is simple and easy with the right techniques. Through following steps outlined here, you can have that pesky stain gone in no time. So, don't despair if mayonnaise finds its way onto your polyester clothing—you know how to stop the stain in its tracks.
