When mayonnaise comes in contact with mohair, it will immediately begin to dry the fibers, creating a sticky mess. The sooner you clean it up, the easier it will be to get rid of the unsightly stain. To start, first scrape off as much of the mayonnaise as possible using a dull knife or a spoon.
Next, blot the stained area gently with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. Work from the outer edges to the center of the stain, being careful not to rub the cloth too hard into the fabric. This will help to loosen stain as well as lift away any excess mayonnaise. After repeating this process, rinse the area with clean water and allow it to air dry.
If mayonnaise stain has set in, it can be more difficult to remove. In this case, you can make a paste of mild laundry detergent and baking soda, and apply it directly to the affected area. Rub the paste gently into the fabric using a soft brush, and then leave it to sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse off the paste with cool water, and then wash fabric in the machine with a gentle detergent. Allow the mohair to air dry before using it.
With a few simple steps, you can easily and quickly remove any mayonnaise stains from your mohair upholstery. Following these tips will help to keep your furniture looking its best and prevent any damage caused by mayonnaise spills.
