Steps for Removing Mayonnaise Stains

  1. Start by placing the fabric face down on a clean towel. Blot the stained area with a paper towel to soak up as much of the mayonnaise as possible.
  2. Mix a solution of one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and two cups of warm water. Moisten a washcloth in the solution and wring it out well.
  3. Gently dab, not rub, the stain with the damp cloth. Depending on size of the stain, this could take a few minutes.
  4. Using a dry paper towel, gently blot the area to lift away the cleaning solution.
  5. Once stain has been cleaned, rinse the area with cold water. Blot the area with a fresh cloth or paper towel to soak up the remaining moisture.
  6. If the mayonnaise stain is still visible, mix a paste of baking soda and cold water. Using a toothbrush or cloth, scrub paste into the stain and let it sit for 10-20 minutes.
  7. Rinse the area with cold water and remove any excess paste.
  8. Allow maxi dress to dry completely before wearing it again.

Tips for Getting Mayonnaise Stains Out of Clothing

  • Be sure to use cold water when working with mayonnaise stains. Hot water will cause the oil and fats in the mayonnaise to bond with the fabric, making stain much harder to remove.
  • If stain is very large and persistent, you can pre-treat the fabric with laundry pre-treatment spray before attempting to clean the stain.
  • With all stains, it's important to act quickly. The fresher the stain is, the easier it will be to clean it up.
