- Clean white cloth or paper towel
- Oxygen bleach
Steps for Removing Mayonnaise Stains from Gingham
Pre-Treating the Stain
- Start by blotting stain with a clean white cloth or paper towel. This will help absorb some of the excess mayonnaise. Do not rub the stain, as rubbing can spread the stain and make it harder to remove.
- Mix one teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of cold water. Use a clean white cloth to submerge the stain in the mixture.
- Blot the stained area with the moistened cloth. Blot, do not rub, as rubbing may spread stain further. Keep reapplying detergent mixture until mayonnaise is gone.
- Rinse the stained area thoroughly with cold water.
Laundering the Gingham
- Once you have pre-treated the stain, you can launder the gingham as you normally would using a regular wash cycle and cold water. Add a half cup of oxygen bleach along with your normal laundry detergent. If the stain persists, repeat Steps 1-4 before laundering the garment again.
- Hang the gingham up to dry. Do not use a dryer as the heat may set stain in the fabric.
Gingham Stain-Free!
With these simple steps, you can remove those pesky mayonnaise stains from your gingham and get it looking good as new. Just remember to blot the stain—not scrub it—and you’ll find that it’s not so hard to get your gingham back to its pristine look.
