There's nothing quite like mayonnaise: creamy and full of flavor. But last thing you want is for your favorite curtains or drapes to become covered in mayo stains.

Mayonnaise can be tricky to clean, as it’s an oil-based product. You don't want to use just any cleaning product on a delicate fabric, such as draperies or curtains. Fortunately, there are a few methods that have been proven to work when cleaning mayonnaise stains.

Step 1: Blot Stain

Using a clean white cloth, blot the mayonnaise until no more liquid is transfeered onto cloth. Do not rub or scrub the area as this can cause the stain to set and become more difficult to remove.

Step 2: Dilute Stain

Mix 1 part detergent, such as dish soap, with 4 parts warm water. Dip a clean white cloth in the detergent solution and gently dab the stained area without rubbing. Avoid using paper towels or colored rags as these may transfer the dye into the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

Rinse the area with cold water and repeat steps 1 and 2 if necessary. Once the stain is gone, rinse one last time with cold water.

Step 4: Dry Thoroughly

Dry the drapery or curtains with a clean towel. Avoid using a hairdryer or other sources of heat as this could set the stain.

With these simple steps, you can easily remove mayonnaise stains from your drapes or curtains. If the stain does not come out after a few attempts, it may be best to take the fabric to a professional dry cleaner.
