First things first, you need to scrape off any excess mayonnaise that may still be left on the surface of your denim. Use an ice cream scoop, butter knife, or plastic spatula to gently scrape away the mayonnaise. Take care not to rub the mayonnaise too harshly, as this could damage the fabric.
Once you’ve scraped off the excess mayonnaise, use a paper towel to blot away the stain. Start from outside of the stain and work your way inwards, using gentle presses for best results. This will help transfer the mayonnaise onto the paper towel and prevent it from spreading further.
Next, make sure the area is completely saturated with laundry detergent and warm water. Allow the detergent and water to sit on the stain for 5-10 minutes, or longer if needed. This will help to loosen the remaining mayonnaise from the fabric fibers.
Once the detergent and water have been allowed to sit long enough, rinse the stain with cool water until all of the detergent has been removed. If stain is still present, repeat Steps 2 through 4 until stain is gone.
Finally, tumble dry your denim on a low heat setting. This will help lock the stain into fabric, making it much more difficult to remove.
Cleaning a mayonnaise stain from cotton denim is actually quite easy. Just follow the steps outlined above and you'll be able to get rid of that pesky stain in no time!
