Step 1: Pretreat with Liquid Laundry Detergent

Using your fingers, rub some liquid laundry detergent onto stained area. For extra stubborn stains, use a soaked cloth instead. Rub the detergent in circular motions until the stain begins to fade. This step is important as it helps loosen mayonnaise so it can be removed more easily.

Step 2: Soak the Stain in White Vinegar or Lemon Juice

Soak the stain in either white vinegar or lemon juice for about 15 minutes. Both drinking-quality white vinegar or lemon juice work, but you may want to dilute the vinegar with an equal part of water first. Making sure that the stained area is completely submerged will help get rid of the mayonnaise faster.

Step 3: Wash in Cool Water

After 15 minutes, launder stained area in cold water. Make sure to select the gentlest cycle and avoid using bleach or other harsh chemicals. When the cycle is complete, check to see if the stain is gone. If it’s not, repeat first two steps before laundering again.

With these three steps, you can quickly and effectively clean mayonnaise stains from cotton chambray.
