Whenever you’re dealing with mayonnaise stains, the most important thing is to act quickly. The longer you let the mayonnaise settle on fabric, harder it will be to remove. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Blot the area using a paper or cloth towel.
  • Mix an enzyme cleaner and cold water in equal portions, and stir until the powder is dissolved. If you don’t have an enzyme cleaner, make a solution of one part dishwashing detergent and two parts water.
  • Soak a clean cloth in the mixture, and gently dab the stain. Do not scrub, as this could damage the fabric.
  • Rinse the affected area with cold water, and use a cloth or sponge to lift the remaining stain.
  • Allow the fabric to air dry. Do not place it in a dryer.

You can also try soaking the affected area in a mixture of warm water and white vinegar for up to 30 minutes before using enzyme cleaner. If the stain persists, try using a rubbing alcohol solution. Just mix one part rubbing alcohol in three parts water, and dab the area with a clean cloth soaked in solution.

Finally, if all else fails, it may be time to take your chiffon piece to a professional dry cleaner. They will have the expertise and specialized tools to handle stubborn mayonnaise stains.
