Before doing any cleaning, check the care label of the fabric to make sure it won’t damage the fabric. To do this, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar in a cup of cool water and dip a small area of your fabric into the solution. If there is no change in color, it is safe to proceed.
Once the fabric has been tested, it’s time to start removing the stain. Take a clean white cloth (or paper towel) and gently blot the stain. Do not rub fabric as this may spread the stain further. Blot until no more of the mayonnaise comes off onto the cloth.
Using a store-bought stain remover, apply the product directly to the stain. Follow the product instructions, leave the stain remover on for the appropriate amount of time, and then rinse with cold water.
If the stain remover did not adequately remove stain, try using a stronger detergent. Make a detergent solution by mixing one teaspoon of gentle laundry detergent in two cups of warm water. Dip a cloth into the solution and blot the stain with it. Don’t rub the fabric or you will risk spreading the stain.
Once the stain is gone, you are ready to launder the fabric. When doing so, use the gentlest cycle possible and coolest temperature setting. You can also add a color-safe bleach to load if necessary.
