7 Simple Steps to Banishing Mayonnaise Stains from Your Boots

Mayonnaise may be the perfect condiment for sandwiches, wraps and salads, but it sure isn't a great topping for your shoes. If you've had an unfortunate encounter with mayonnaise smears on your boots, don't freak out; there are simple steps you can take to banish mayonnaise stains for good. Here's all you need to know to rescure your footwear.
Step 1: Scrape Away Excess Mayonnaise
Using a blunt object like a butter knife or spoon, try to remove as much of mayonnaise as you can. Be careful not to scrape too hard or use a sharp object, which will scratch your boots.
Step 2: Blot the Stain with Water
Run cold water over mayonnaise stain (but never hot!) and then blot the area with a cloth or paper towel, pressing firmly against stain to absorb as much of moisture and mayonnaise as possible.
Step 3: Apply a Homemade Cleaner
Mix two parts baking soda with one part water until it forms a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and let it sit for 15 minutes. After paste has had time to work its magic, wipe it away with a damp cloth.
Step 4: Rinse, Repeat
If you still see remnants of the stain, repeat steps 2 and 3. You may also want to try using a mild soap solution in place of the baking soda paste.
Step 5: Pretreat with Detergent
Pretreat the stain with a laundry detergent specifically designed for removing stubborn stains. Follow the instructions on the detergent bottle, and apply directly to stain. Let it soak in for five minutes before rinsing.
Step 6: Soak in Warm Water
Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Submerge the boots completely in soapy water and let them soak for 10-15 minutes. After they've soaked, remove them from the water and rinse with cold water.
Step 7: Let Air Dry
Once you've finished cleaning your boots, allow them to air dry completely before wearing them again.
