Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first and most important step is blotting the mayonnaise stain with a clean, dry cloth. This will help to absorb any excess liquid and make the stain easier to remove. Make sure to use a light touch and be careful not to rub the stain as this could spread it further.

Step 2: Pre-Treat with Detergent

Mix one teaspoon of gentle laundry detergent with one cup of warm water in a bowl. Dip a cloth into the mixture and dab it onto the mayonnaise stain. Let the detergent sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing the area with cool water. Repeat this process if needed.

Step 3: Wash the Gown

Once you have pre-treated the stain, you can machine-wash ball gown. Use a gentle cycle and wool-safe or cold water. Do not use hot water as this could set the stain. Add a small amount of detergent to the washing machine and wash the gown alone.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain is still present after washing, treat it again with a stain remover and rewash.
  • Always read the care label of the gown before washing. Some materials may require hand-washing or dry cleaning.
  • Never use chlorine bleach on light colored fabric as this could cause fading or discoloration.
