Step 1: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

To clean your white tie of mascara stains, you'll need a few items:

  • A clean white cloth
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • A small brush (a toothbrush will do in a pinch)
  • A mild dishwashing liquid

Step 2: Apply Detergent to Stain

Once you've gathered all the necessary supplies, start by applying a small amount of mild laundry detergent directly to the mascara stain. Use your fingers or a soft cloth to rub the detergent into the stain gently. Let the detergent sit for about five minutes. This helps to break down the mascara oils in the fabric.

Step 3: Scrub Stain with Brush

Once the detergent has had a chance to work its magic, take your small brush and start scrubbing away at stain. This helps to loosen the particles of the mascara stuck in the fabric. Do not use too much pressure, as this could damage the fibers of the tie.

Step 4: Rinse Away Detergent

Once you have scrubbed away most of mascara, rinse the area with warm water. Then, take your mild dishwashing liquid and add it to some warm water. Use a clean cloth to dab the solution onto the stained area. Make sure to wipe away any excess liquid.

Step 5: Dry and Inspect

After rinsing the fabric with the dishwashing liquid solution, pat area dry with a clean towel. Once fabric is thoroughly dried, inspect the tie to see if the mascara stain is still visible. If it isn't, you can proceed to wear the tie as usual. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-4 until it is gone.

Tips For Preventing Mascara Stains On White Ties

  • Apply any makeup before getting dressed.
  • Cover your tie with a scarf or bib while applying makeup.
  • Regularly spot clean ties with a mild cleaner.
