Venetian lace is a delicate fabric, and you should take extra care when washing any type of lace. Before tackling a mascara stain, determine if the fabric is colorfast by testing it on an inconspicuous spot. It’s also important to determine whether your Venetian lace is washable or dry-clean only.
For washable Venetian lace, begin by removing any excess mascara with a spoon or dull knife. Use a diluted solution of non-bleaching detergent and a damp cloth to blot the stain, working from the outside in. Be sure to use a clean portion of the cloth each time to avoid spreading stain.
Let detergent sit on the stain for five minutes before rinsing it with cold water. If necessary, repeat process one more time before machine washing in cold water. Don’t use bleach or hot water as this could damage the fabric.
If the Venetian lace is dry-clean only, you should try to treat the stain at home first. Follow the same steps outlined above for washable lace. If the stain persists, take the item to a professional cleaner. Don’t attempt to dry-clean the fabric at home as this could cause irreversible damage.
With a little bit of patience and the right cleaning supplies, it is possible to get mascara stains out of Venetian lace. Always test a small area of the fabric first and take special care when dealing with delicate fabrics.
