Twill is a popular fabric choice for clothing and is known for its durability. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it's immune to staining from makeup. Mascara is one of the most stubborn stains to remove, so it’s important to act fast if you want to salvage your garment.
The first step in removing mascara stains is to blot the affected area as soon as possible. Use a clean rag or paper towel to briskly blot the stained area to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain.
Mix a solution of a mild detergent, such as liquid laundry detergent, and warm water. Dip a towel or cloth into the solution and apply it directly onto the mascara stain. Let detergent sit for about 20 minutes before rinsing with clean water.
If stain persists after pretreatment with detergent and water, you may need to add a stain remover to mix. Choose a color-safe and bleach-free stain remover, such as OxiClean, to ensure it won’t damage the fabric. Let the stain remover sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing off.
Finally, rinse the stained area with cold water until the suds are gone. Gently pat dry using a towel or cloth. Avoid using hot water or a washing machine to wash twill fabric as this can cause shrinkage.
Removing mascara stains from twill fabric isn’t impossible, but it requires patience and the right supplies. Be sure to treat stains as soon as possible and don’t forget to use a color-safe and bleach-free stain remover. With these steps, you’ll be able to save your favorite twill garments.
