General Tips on Removing Mascara Stains

When it comes to removing mascara stains from clothing, the earlier you can act the better. Start by gently scraping off as much mascara as possible with a spoon or dull knife. It's important to be careful not to press too hard and rub the material, as stain could spread.

Next, turn the garment inside out and apply pre-treatment stain remover to affected area. Follow any instructions on the packaging of the product. After allowing the solution to sit for a few minutes, rinse the garment in cold water.

Using Detergent and Bleach Alternatives

For light-colored fabrics, a bleach alternative such as oxygen bleach or chlorine bleach can help dissolve the stain. Make sure to follow the safety instructions on the packaging before using the solution. For dark fabrics, try applying a thick paste made of laundry detergent and water to the stain. Let this sit for at least 30 minutes before rinsing and repeating, as needed.

Treating with Rubbing Alcohol

Soak a cotton ball or pad in rubbing alcohol for a few seconds. Carefully blot the stain, making sure not to rub too hard and spread the stain. This should help to break down any remaining traces of mascara without damaging the fabric.

Washing Garment

After you've tried the above solutions, it's important to wash the garment according to its care instructions. Do not put the garment in dryer until you are sure stain has been removed.
