The worst thing about mascara stains is that it’s often hard to tell if they’re on your toy until after the mascara has dried and set in. Thankfully, if you catch it soon enough, a few simple cleaning supplies and some gentle scrubbing can go a long way in removing the stain. Here are our top tips for getting mascara off of your beloved toy:

White Vinegar and Water Solution

One of the easiest ways to remove mascara from toys without any special chemicals is to make a vinegar and water solution. Simply mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl and stir until combined. Then, use a soft cloth or paper towel to lightly dab mixture onto stained area of your toy. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then lightly scrub the area with a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush.

Baby Shampoo

If the stain still won’t come out after trying the vinegar and water solution, try using baby shampoo! Baby shampoo is gentle enough not to damage the fabric of your toy, but strong enough to break down the oils in the mascara, making it easier to remove. Just mix a few drops of the shampoo in a bowl of warm water, dip a soft cloth into the solution, and lightly rub the stained area until the stain is gone.

Rubbing Alcohol

If all else fails, you can always try using rubbing alcohol. First, test a small area of toy to make sure the rubbing alcohol won't damage it. If it looks safe, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and lightly rub it onto the stain until it begins to fade. Be sure to work gently and avoid applying too much pressure.

Once you’ve followed these steps and the stain is gone, allow toy to air dry before putting it away. With a bit of patience and the right cleaning techniques, you'll be able to easily remove mascara stains from your toys!
