How to Easily Remove Mascara Stains from Tartan

Mascara has a habit of finding its way onto fabric, especially during the morning rush when you’re trying to get ready and out the door. The stains can be particularly challenging to remove from tartan fabric, but don't worry — it is possible to remove mascara stains from tartan with the right techniques!

Instructions

  1. Blot up as much of the excess mascara as possible with a clean, absorbent cloth. Do not rub the stain.
  2. Mix together one teaspoon of a gentle liquid detergent with two cups of water in a bowl.
  3. Dip a clean white cloth into the soapy solution and gently dab stain. Do not rub the fabric.
  4. Rinse the cloth thoroughly and blot the wet area with a clean cloth.
  5. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water in a bowel.
  6. Dab the stain with vinegar solution and leave for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Rinse the vinegar solution off the fabric with cool water.
  8. Pat the area dry with a clean cloth.
  9. For stubborn mascara stains, repeat the steps above.

Tips

  • Check the care label before attempting to remove the stain.
  • Always use a mild detergent or laundry soap.
  • Always test any cleaning products on an unseen area of the fabric first.
