The first step to removing mascara stains from spandex is to pre-treat the fabric. You should use a mild detergent, such as a dishwashing liquid, and mix it with warm water. Submerge stained area in the soapy water and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. This will help break down the mascara and loosen it from the material.
Once you've pre-treated the stain, it's time to tackle it head on. To do this, you'll need a few basic items: a soft brush, a color-safe bleach, and laundry detergent. Start by gently brushing the stained area in a circular motion. This will help work the mixture into the fabric and further loosen stain.
Now, combine equal parts of color-safe bleach and laundry detergent in a bowl. With a sponge or cloth, apply the mixture directly to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, rinse off the fabric thoroughly with cold water. At this point, you may see the stain has lightened considerably.
If the stain still remains, you can repeat the process until it’s completely gone. Otherwise, you can throw the spandex into the washing machine. Wash with warm/hot water and a mild detergent, then hang to dry.
With a few simple steps, you can easily get mascara stains out of spandex. It just takes a bit of patience and the right cleaning products.
