Silk Tussah is a type of fabric made from the cocoons of tussah silkworms. It's soft to touch, lightweight, and can be very delicate. As such, it can be difficult to remove makeup stains like mascara. However, with the right approach, it's possible to restore your silk items to their original beauty.
The first step in cleaning any stain is to wet it. For mascara stains on silk Tussah, you'll want to use lukewarm water and a clean cloth. Dampen cloth in the water, then lightly dab the stain until it is entirely wet.
Next, you'll want to add a few drops of mild detergent on the stain. A natural soap or laundry detergent should be suitable for this. Rub the detergent into the stain using a circular motion. Keep in mind that you don't want to scrub too harshly, as this could damage fabric.
Once the detergent has been rubbed into the stain, rinse it with lukewarm water. This will help to remove the stubborn mascara residue. If necessary, repeat Steps 2 and 3 several times until the stain is gone.
After the stain has been removed, you'll need to dry the fabric. The safest way to do this is by laying it flat on a clean towel. Air drying is preferable, as excessive heat can shrink and damage delicate fabric. Alternately, you can place a towel over the fabric and gently blot it dry.
