Carefully blot the stain with a clean white cloth or paper towel. It’s important to blot the stain rather than scrubbing it, as scrubbing can drive mascara into fabric fibers and make it harder to remove. Once you’ve blotted as much of the mascara as possible, move onto the next step.
Mix one teaspoon of mild liquid dish soap with two cups of lukewarm water. Stir the mix gently until the soap is mostly dissolved. Avoid using hot water since it can cause the silk fabric to shrink.
Dip a clean white cloth into soapy water mixture and wring out the excess. Blot the stain gently with the damp cloth; the soap should start to lift the mascara out of the fabric. Don’t rub or scrub at the stain, as this can damage the delicate silk fabric.
Once you’ve removed as much of mascara as possible, rinse area with clean water. Use a cloth dampened with plain, cold water to blot out the soapy residue and rinse away any remaining mascara. Again, avoid using hot water since it can cause the silk fabric to shrink.
Finally, let the fabric air dry completely. If you’re in a hurry, you can also use a blow dryer on the cool setting. Be careful not to hold blow dryer too close to the silk fabric, as this can cause it to scorch.
With these steps, you can keep your silk shantung fabric looking fresh and stain-free!
