Stains from mascara can be difficult to remove on fabrics like silk chiffon. Silk chiffon is a light and airy fabric that requires special care when it comes to cleaning. With the right steps, however, removing these mascara stains can be both easy and quick.
Before starting the cleaning process, gather all the supplies you'll need, including:
Once you have all your supplies gathered, you're ready to start pre-treating the stain. Begin by running cold water over the stains until they are fully saturated. Then, add 1 tablespoon of mild detergent to 4 cups of cold water in a bucket. Dip a clean cloth or sponge in water, gently blotting the stain to loosen it up. Do not rub the stain too hard, as this could cause further damage to the fabric.
Once the stain is pre-treated, it's time to soak the fabric in a mixture of mild detergent and liquid oxygen bleach. Mix 1 ½ tablespoons of mild detergent with 1 ½ tablespoons of liquid oxygen bleach in a bucket of cold water. Submerge the chiffon completely in mixture, and let it soak for 30 minutes.
After the fabric has soaked, rinse it with cold water until all the soap and bleach are removed. Then, lay the fabric flat on a towel. Roll the towel up around it to soak up any excess water. Let fabric air dry, avoiding direct sunlight as this can cause the fabric to fade. Once the fabric is completely dry, inspect stain - it should be gone.
