Create a mixture of equal parts of warm water and liquid detergent, such as detergent for delicate fabrics. The solution should have enough detergent to create a lather when you agitate it with your hands.
Begin blotting the stain with a cloth or paper towel to try and remove the excess mascara. Continue blotting until no more comes off before continuing to the next step.
Using a clean cloth, dip it into the solution you created. Rub the fabric gently in a circular motion around the stained area. Concentrate on stained area and try not to rub other parts of the fabric too hard. You can also use a toothbrush for tougher stains, but make sure it is clean and soft bristle.
Rinse the entire shift dress with cold water to remove the detergent and any remaining mascara. Repeat the previous steps until the stain is no longer visible.
Lay the shift dress out to air dry or hang it up to dry. Do not put it the dress in the dryer as the heat may set the stain.
