Start by dabbing the stain gently with a baby wipe or soft cloth dipped in makeup remover. Just make sure to not rub too harshly as this may cause the fabric to fray. Keep dabbing until the stain lifts off.

Once the majority of the stain has been removed, it's time to move on to the second step. Fill a sink or bowl with lukewarm water and some gentle liquid detergent. Submerge the stained scarf and let it soak for about 30 minutes.

After soaking, use a soft bristled brush to work detergent into the stained area. Once all of stain has been worked out, rinse scarf well in cold water. Rinse until there is no sign of suds.

Finally, check for any remaining spots and treat them with laundry pre-wash or other stain removers specifically formulated for treating fabrics. If the stain persists, try using a rust eraser. This special kind of eraser is unique in that it can gently scrape away any residue that remains.

Once you have treated the remaining spots, launder scarf on delicate cycle according to the manufacturer's care instructions. And it's as easy as that - your precious scarf is back to its pre-makeup mishap state!
