What Causes Mascara Stains on Rayon?

Mascara stains on rayon occur when oil- or water-based mascara rubs off on the fabric. The oil or wax used in mascaras can quickly break down the fibers of rayon, making it difficult to remove the stain once it has set. It's especially important to act quickly when removing mascara stains from rayon to avoid permanent damage.

Cleaning Mascara Stains on Rayon

For fresh mascara stains on rayon, start by gently blotting the stain with a paper towel or soft cloth. Do not rub as this will only spread stain. Next, prepare a solution of warm water, white vinegar, and detergent. Gently blot this solution onto the stain using a soft cloth or sponge. Leave the solution for 5-10 minutes then rinse clean using cold water.

For older or dried stains, prepare a solution of 2 parts rubbing alcohol, 1 part detergent and 1 part water. Test this solution on a small corner of fabric before applying it directly to the stain. If all is well, apply generously to the mascara stain and let sit for 10 minutes. Blot the area with a clean paper towel then rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
