Unfortunately, mascara stains on raincoats can be quite common. Whether from a spill of too much makeup, or simply from sweating while wearing your coat, mascara can leave unwanted marks. Luckily, there are some methods that can help keep stains away.

How To Remove Mascara Stains from Raincoats

The first step in removing mascara stains is to identify the fabric you’re working with. Some materials can be delicate, and require more gentle treatment than others. Once you’ve determined the fabric type, choose a cleaning method that meets your needs.

Step 1: Blotting

Using a clean cloth, carefully dab at stained area to pick up as much of the mascara as possible. If the stain is fresh, you may need to use a damp cloth, but make sure not to rub the area too harshly.

Step 2: Spot Cleaning Solution

For tougher stains, you may want to consider a spot-cleaning solution. Mix together one part dish soap with three parts water. Using a fresh cloth, gently massage the mixture into the stained area, making sure not to spread it onto other parts of coat. Let solution sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cool water.

Step 3: Professional Dry Cleaning

For extreme cases, professional care may be the best option. Take the coat to your local dry cleaner and ask them to treat the stain using their expertise and specialized equipment.

Keeping Mascara Stains Away

In addition to cleaning up existing stains, there are also strategies you can employ to minimize future staining. Consider using waterproof mascara and taking care to wipe sweat away from the coat when needed. Be sure to store your raincoat in a safe place, away from potential spills, and brush off any foreign substance that may collect on the material.
