Using a Laundry Detergent Solution

Start by making a solution of laundry detergent and warm water. Use enough detergent to create a thick lather. Then apply this solution on the stained area with a soft-bristled brush. Gently scrub stain until it starts to fade away.

Removing the Stain with Vinegar and Baking Soda

Another effective way to get rid of mascara stains is to make a paste of baking soda and white vinegar. Spread this paste on stained area and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a sponge to scrub the stain gently. Rinse the area with warm water and repeat these steps until the stain is gone.

Using a Detergent and Ammonia Solution

If the above methods don’t work, you can also try using a solution of detergent and ammonia. Mix 1/4 cup of detergent with 1/4 cup of ammonia in a bowl. Apply this solution on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. With a sponge or cloth, rub the area until the stain disappears. Then, rinse the fabric with warm water.

Stain Removal Tips

  • Always test the cleaning solution on a hidden part of the fabric before applying it on the stain.
  • Always treat the stain as soon as possible, as dried on stains are harder to remove.
  • Never use hot water to remove mascara stains from polyester, as it can cause fabric to shrink.
