General Cleaning Instructions

Begin by gently scraping off as much excess mascara as possible. Then, create a cleaning solution by mixing two tablespoons of liquid dishwashing detergent with one quart of lukewarm water. Test a small, inconspicuous area of your garment beforehand to make sure the cleaning solution won't discolor it.

Once you have determined that the solution is safe for your clothing, dip a clean cloth into the mixture and begin blotting the stained area. Be sure to work from the outside of the stain towards the center. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area thoroughly with lukewarm water and blot dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Removing Mascara Stains from Delicate Outerwear Fabrics

If the stained material is delicate, you’ll need to approach the cleaning process differently. Begin by creating a cleaning solution consisting of one tablespoon of vinegar mixed with two cups of warm water. Use a damp cloth to sponge the stain with the solution, then rinse area thoroughly with warm water. Finish by blotting area dry with a towel.

Additional Tips & Techniques

  • If you are still having trouble getting out the stain with above techniques, you can also try using a stain remover designed specifically for outerwear.
  • Be sure to always read and follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer of your clothing.
  • It’s best to avoid drying your garment in a clothes dryer until you are sure the stain has been completely removed.
