Remove Fresh Stains

If you’ve just noticed the stain, start by dabbing the area with a damp cloth. Don't rub stain or use any type of scrubbing motions because it might damage macramé.

Soak Up Old Stains

If the stain has been sitting there for a while, try soaking it with a mixture of lukewarm water and a few drops of mild detergent or shampoo. Let the area soak for about twenty minutes, then gently dab it dry.

Removing Stubborn Stains

For really stubborn mascara stains, mix a tablespoon of ammonia or vinegar with a cup of water and sponge it onto the stained area. Then rinse it off with a cloth soaked in cold water.

Let It Dry Completely

Finally, let the macramé air dry completely. Make sure no moisture is left behind. If stain still remains after all these steps, it may be time to take your macramé to a professional cleaner.
