Removing Fresh Stains

If you catch the mascara stain as soon as it happens, there are several things you can do to remove it. The most effective methods involve blotting the stain with warm water or a gentle detergent. Here's what you need to do:

  • Blot the stain with a warm, damp cloth or sponge. Do not rub, as this will spread the stain.
  • Treat the stain with a mild detergent using a soft bristled brush. Gently rub the affected area and then rinse.
  • If necessary, repeat the process until the stain disappears.
  • If the stain persists, you may need to use a stronger detergent such as a grease-cutting dishwashing liquid or laundry pre-treater.

Removing Set-in Stains

If mascara stain has been on your jacket for some time, it may be more difficult to remove. The best way to tackle the stain is with an enzyme-based stain remover. Here's what you need to do:

  • Soak the stain in a mixture of equal parts enzyme-based stain remover and warm water. Allow the garment to soak for at least an hour.
  • Scrub the area gently with a soft bristled brush. You may need to repeat this step multiple times to remove the stain.
  • Rinse the garment with cold water and allow to air dry.

Avoiding Future Stains

To avoid future mascara stains, be sure to keep your makeup products away from your clothes. When applying mascara, start by curling your lashes and then quickly brush on the product. Make sure to clean up any excess that accidentally lands on your skin or clothing.
