Using a Detergent Solution

Creating a mixture of detergent and cold water is the simplest way to clean mascara stains off of J Crew clothing. Simply fill a bucket or sink with cold water and mix a tablespoon of detergent into it. Once detergent has dissolved into the water, submerge the stained clothing and let it soak for roughly 20 minutes. Afterwards, gently rub the affected area and wash with a damp cloth.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol can also be used to remove mascara stains on J Crew clothing. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the affected area, adding enough to cover the stain fully. Rub alcohol around the stained area for a few minutes and then dab off any excess liquid with a towel. Finally, leave the item of clothing out to air dry and the stain should gradually fade away.

Using White Vinegar

White vinegar is one of the most effective solutions for removing mascara stains from J Crew clothing. To use it, make sure that your clothing is turned inside out and then soak it in a mixture of cold water and 1/4 cup of white vinegar for at least an hour. Rinse with cold water and then blot off the remaining residue with a cloth. Allow clothing to air dry afterwards.

Hand-Washing Techniques

If your J Crew clothing is not machine washable, you can try using hand-washing techniques to clean it. Start by filling a bucket or sink with cold water and 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent. Soak the stained clothing in the water for about 20 minutes and then rub the stained area gently with a soft brush. Rinse the clothing with cold water and then pat it dry with a clean towel. Allow the clothing to air dry afterwards.

  • Test any cleaning products in an inconspicuous area before using them on stain
  • Use a pre-treatment product to increase the chance of success
  • Act as quickly as possible to reduce the lifetime of the stain
