If you live a busy lifestyle, chances are at some point you’ll find yourself with a makeup stain on your handbag. Instead of panicking, try a few of these simple steps to remove the mess.

Step 1: Preparing the Stain

The first step is to figure out what type of material your handbag is made out of. Is it leather, fabric, or synthetic? Knowing this will help you determine what kind of cleaning product and technique you’ll need.

Step 2: Dabbing & Blotting

Once you’ve identified the bag’s material, it’s time to start dabbing and blotting the mascara stain. Start off by dampening a clean cloth with a bit of water and start dabbing. The key here is to use minimal pressure and avoid rubbing the stain as it can spread the mess around.

Step 3: Applying Cleaning Products

Depending on the type of material your bag is made of, you can use products like mild detergents, dish soap, or baby shampoo. Experiment with a very small amount of the product on a hidden area of the handbag and make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric before applying the product to the stain itself. Once you have the product on the cloth dab it onto stain. If needed, use your fingers to gently massage the product into the fabric.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry

After applying the cleaning product to the stain, rinse off the product with clean water then dab it dry with a clean cloth. If any of the stain remains, try repeating the steps until it’s gone.
