Step 1: Act Quickly

As with all types of stain removal, it’s important to act quickly. The sooner you start removing the stain, more likely it is that you will be able to completely remove it. If the stain is fresh, use a damp cloth or cotton ball to blot away the excess mascara. Do not rub or scrub the area, as this may cause the stain to spread.

Step 2: Pre-Treat Stain

Once the excess mascara has been removed, you can pre-treat the stain. Begin by mixing a teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with two cups of cold water. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into mixture and gently blot the affected area. Allow the detergent mixture to sit for 10 minutes before proceeding to step 3.

Step 3: Rinse Stain

After the pre-treatment is complete, rinse the area with cold water. Use a sponge or cloth to gently blot the area. Do not rub fabric as rubbing can cause the stain to spread.

Step 4: Launder the Fabric

Once the stain has been pre-treated and rinsed, launder the fabric with cold water. It’s best to use a gentle cycle to avoid further damage to the fabric. Once the cycle completes, check to make sure the stain has been completely removed. If the stain persists, repeat steps 1-3 until the stain is gone.
