The faster you act, the easier it will be to remove mascara from gazar. Blot area with a damp cloth straight away to absorb as much of the product as possible, and avoid rubbing or scrubbing, as this could lead to the mascara smudging further and cause the stain to set in.
Before using any cleaning products, test a small hidden area of the fabric to make sure it won’t be damaged or discoloured.
Mix a tablespoon of mild detergent, like washing up liquid, into two cups of cold water. Blot the stain with a cloth to soak up excess mascara, then use the cloth to apply detergent solution. Leave for 5 minutes and then rinse with cold water and gently blot the area dry.
Soak a cotton pad or cloth in rubbing alcohol and then press it against the mascara stain. This will help to break up the mascara and make it easier to remove. Then rinse with cold water and dab area dry with a clean cloth.
If there are still traces of the mascara after you’ve tried the above methods, spot cleaning with acetone can help to remove even toughest stains. Acetone can be damaging to certain fabrics, so be sure to test a hidden area first and never pour it directly onto the fabric. Dip a cotton swab into acetone and then dab it onto the stain until it’s gone.
Once stain has been removed, follow care instructions on the tag to machine wash garment.
If stain is particularly stubborn, it’s best to take it to the dry cleaners rather than attempting to remove it yourself. Professional cleaners have the expertise and specialist knowledge to clean without damaging delicate fabrics such as gazar.
