Step 1: Blot Gently

The key is gentle, non-abrasive blotting. Start by using a soft cloth or cotton ball to dab at the stained area, making sure not to rub or scrub. As you do this, switch to a clean section of cloth to avoid smearing the stain. Be patient; it may take a few rounds of dabbing to remove the stain.

Step 2: Spot Treat

If the stain remains after blotting, you can spot treat it with a mild detergent. Mix a solution of one tablespoon of laundry detergent and one cup of lukewarm water, and stir until the detergent is dissolved. Take a soft cloth and dip it in the solution. Dab the stained area lightly with the cloth, and move to a clean part of the cloth often. Once you’re finished, rinse the garment in cold water to remove any excess detergent.

Step 3: Allow to Air Dry

Lay your garter flat on a towel or hang on a clothesline. Avoid the heat of the dryer when possible, as this can set stain. Instead, allow your garter to air dry naturally before checking for any remaining stains.
