Mascara can be a tricky makeup item to manage. Whether you've been applying a little too freely or you've been the victim of an accidental swipe across a piece of furniture, mascara can leave a stubborn stain. Luckily, there are some simple cleaning solutions that can help erase a mascara stain in no time.
Begin by wiping away as much of the mascara as possible using a dry cloth. Avoid smudging stain further and do not press too hard. After most of the mascara has been removed, make a paste with water and a mild detergent.
Apply the paste to the stained area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Afterwards, use a damp cloth to rub away remaining mascara. It may take several attempts to get rid of the stain completely, but keep up the pressure until all traces of mascara are gone.
Removing mascara from wooden furniture requires a slightly different approach. Begin by softening the stain with a blow dryer, paying special attention to the edges of the stain. Make sure not to scorch the wood.
Once the stain is softened, wipe away as much as possible with a cloth and dab a small amount of non-oil-based soap onto the remaining stain. Gently rub cleaner into the wood and wipe away the residue with a damp cloth. Finish off by applying a light layer of furniture polish.
