Time is of the essence when getting mascara out of fabric. As soon as you spot stain, put a few ice cubes in a gallon-sized zip-top bag and place the bag over stain.
This will help keep the stain from setting and spreading. Leave bag on there for about 10 minutes and then remove it.
After the ice treatment, blot the stained area with white vinegar. Use a paper towel to dab at the stain. Don't rub or scrub the fabric as this can make the stain spread.
Once you've finished blotting stain, rinse the area with a clean cloth dampened with cold water. Then, use a different paper towel to blot the area dry.
The final step is to throw the fabric in the washing machine. Follow the recommended wash cycle and temperature for the fabric type. When selecting a laundry detergent, use a mild detergent specifically for delicate fabrics or stain-removal formulas.
Be sure to double-check the fabric label before washing - some drapery and curtain materials are actually dry-clean only.
