Cotton voile is a lightweight, delicate fabric that is popular for making blouses, dresses, quilts, curtains, and accessories like scarves and shawls. It's a beautiful material, but because of its light weight it is prone to stains. Mascara can be particularly challenging to remove once it sets, so it's important to act fast.

Step 1: Soak Up the Stain

The first thing you need to do when dealing with a mascara stain on cotton voile is to soak up as much of excess product as possible. To do this, use clean paper towels or a washcloth to dab at affected area. Press down firmly, and then lift the towels off to examine how much you've been able to absorb. Repeat this until the stain has been reduced or removed as much as possible.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Once you've soaked up as much of the mascara as you can, take a pretreatment product like a spot-removal spray or stain removal pen and apply it directly to the stain. Allow it sit for five minutes with no disturbance. Then take a damp cloth and press down firmly on the stain for a few seconds. Lift the cloth and check the results.

Step 3: Rinse and Wash

If there's still a stain after following steps above, rinse the area with cold water and use a detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Make sure that you read the care instructions for the item in question to ensure that you are not using too much detergent or an overly strong wash temperature. Then place it in the washing machine and let it run through a regular cycle.

Step 4: Dry and Inspect

Once the item has been washed, dry it as usual and inspect to see if the stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat the above steps until the stain is gone. Additionally, you can try using a stain-removing stick or bar soap to work the stain out.
