Step One: Pretreat the Stain With Soap and Water

Before you tackle stain with any laundry detergent, it is always best to pretreat it with some soap and water. The easiest way to do this is to take a damp cloth and put a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap on it. Work soapy water into the stain gently using your fingers or a soft brush. Then blot it with a paper towel to absorb the excess moisture.

Step Two: Spot Clean with Detergent

Once you have pretreated the stain with soap and water, it's time to spot clean it with some laundry detergent. Start by dampening the stained area of the fabric and then applying a generous amount of laundry detergent directly onto the affected area. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric using small circular motions. Let detergent sit on fabric for at least 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Step Three: Rinse and Launder

Once you have applied the laundry detergent and let it sit, it's time to rinse the detergent off of the fabric. Use cold water and use your fingertips to agitate the detergent as you rinse. When you have removed all of the detergent, wash the fabric in the washing machine using the warmest temperature setting possible. Be sure to also add a color-safe bleach to the load or an oxygen-based cleaner if you are dealing with a white or light-colored fabric.

Step Four: Dry and Inspect

After the fabric has completed its wash cycle in the washing machine, it's time to dry it. Place fabric in the dryer on the warmest temperature setting and dry it completely. Check the fabric once it has finished drying and see if the stain has been removed. If the stain is still visible, repeat the steps above until the stain is completely gone.

Conclusion

Removing mascara stains from cotton seersucker can be a tricky task. Fortunately, with a few simple steps you can easily get rid of those pesky stains. Using a combination of pretreating with soap and water, spot cleaning with laundry detergent, rinsing, and laundering, you can have your seersucker looking like new again in no time!
