The key to getting mascara out of cotton denim is to treat it as quickly as possible. Once the stain has had time to set, it will be harder to remove. Immediately blot or pat the stain with a damp cloth or paper towel to help lift any excess mascara.
Next, create a cleaning solution by combining detergent or natural enzyme cleaner with one part water. Apply the mixture directly to the stained area and lightly work it into the fabric. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing solution away with cold water.
Once the stain is gone, wash your garment as usual in the washer and dryer. If the stain doesn't come out during the washing cycle, repeat the above steps until the stain disappears.
The best way to make sure your cotton denim stays free of mascara stains is to protect it from getting stained in first place. Wear a cami or tank top underneath your shirt to keep it from rubbing against your mascara. Also, try using an eye makeup remover that specifically says it's safe to use on clothing. This will help to make sure that the mascara doesn't seep into your clothing and cause a stain.
