What You Will Need

  • Cotton swab
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Powdered laundry detergent
  • Toothbrush

Step 1: Scrape off Excess Mascara

Use a cotton swab and gently scrape off any excess mascara. Do this as soon as you notice the stain, before it dries and sets in.

Step 2: Apply Rubbing Alcohol

Dab a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and apply it to stain. Let the alcohol sit for a few minutes before dabbing it with a clean cloth.

Step 3: Launder Your Shirt

Add a tablespoon of laundry detergent to a cup of warm water and thoroughly soak the stained area of your shirt. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off the detergent.

If the stain persists, make a solution of 1/4 distilled white vinegar and 3/4 cup of water. Soak the stained area again and let it sit for an hour before rinsing off.

After soaking your shirt, launder it as normal. If the stain still doesn't budge, use a toothbrush and some powdered laundry detergent to scrub the area. Then launder your shirt again in your regular washing machine cycle.

Conclusion

Accidentally getting mascara on shirt collars is an annoying but common wardrobe mishap. However, following these steps will help you quickly eliminate any mascara stains from your clothing – so you can head out the door looking your best.
